Slava Raškaj

(Ozalj, January 2, 1877 - Stenjevec, Zagreb, March 29, 1906)
She finished deaf-mute, primary and secondary school at the Institute for Deaf-mute Children in Vienna from 1883 to 1892. She also received her first drawing lessons in Vienna, and her first recorded drawings were made. The first person to notice Slava's talent was Isidor Kršnjavi. Her watercolors represent the highest achievement of Croatian watercolor painting at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Of all our painters who had previously done watercolor, she had the most feeling for the ratio of pigment to water in the watercolor process.
